PLATEAU DE CHARPAL
Massive and mountains
MARGERIDE
48170 ARZENC-DE-RANDON
The Charpal Plateau is largely wooded, but it has retained an exceptional concentration of peat bogs (complex of priority habitats), including the largest in Lozère, since they can cover up to 25 hectares.
It is one of the most interesting sites in Languedoc-Roussillon for the conservation of peatlands: there are indeed several stages of development and transitional facies towards wet meadows. These typical acidic bogs are associated with moors and spikenard lawns.
It is one of the 2 sites in the Region where the Hammarbya paludosa orchid is found, alongside the Lycopodium Lycopodium
very rare inundatum in Languedoc.
Also note the presence of the Otter (Lutra lutra).
