The Madeleine chapel is built on a terrace which overlooks the Borne valley. An oral tradition places the site of the old Planchamp castle above the building, although there is no archaeological evidence to confirm this.
It is a small, typical 12th century building, built in a beautiful seated granite structure, and comprising a single nave of two bays ending in a semi-circular apse with a cul-de-four vault. The small arcaded bell tower seems modern.
Inside, the chapel houses the heart of Odilon Barrot, as indicated by a commemorative plaque affixed to the wall of the apse.
