The tower was rebuilt at the end of the 16th century, after being destroyed during serious conflicts between Catholics and Protestants.
It is listed as a Historic Monument.
Two grand masters of the Hospitallers of Saint-Jean-de-Jérusalem came from this place: Guillaume and Foulques de Villaret. The latter conquered the island of Rhodes in 1309.
Since its development from 1992 to 1993, the Villaret tower has presented art exhibitions as well as an artists' studio.
